Long Bay Beach is situated in the tropical island of Tortola (Spanish for “Turtle Dove”) in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), which is situated about 75 miles east of Puerto Rico and adjacent to the US Virgin Islands. The largest of the BVI islands at 21.5 square miles, Tortola offers numerous beaches and attractions. The BVI beaches are less developed compared to many beaches, but they remain beautiful and spectacular. The beaches, like Long Bay, are located in outlying islands that are reached only by boat. Nestled in a remote, 52-acre hillside, Long Bay is typical of the beaches found in the Caribbean, with swaying palm trees, pristine powdery sand, coral reefs and picturesque panorama.
Long Bay West is a mile-long beach where joggers can be seen running along the water’s edge. This portion of the beach offers a spectacular sunset, attracting couples to take a romantic walk as the sun sets. Visitors who wish to linger after the sun sets can watch the waves crashing into the beach. Long Bay Resort is found on the north end of the beach. The resort’s restaurant is popular among visitors who like to take their meals while viewing the water. The resort offers swimming pools, tennis courts, gift shop, grocery store, spa, restaurants and bars, and other amenities. Long Bay Beach East, situated east of Road Town, can be reached from Beef Island Road.

The crystal clear water of Long Bay East is perfect for swimming. It also has an abundance and variety of sea shells for avid collectors. From the shore, beachgoers can see the rocky offshore island of Little Camanoe and Scrub Island and Marina Cay. Despite the presence of a resort, visitors can still walk along the beach and find their own secluded corner. Other popular activities at Long Bay include scuba diving, sailing and snorkeling. But during parts of the winter, surfing is a popular activity as the north swell generates huge waves on the beach.
