Jamaica - Silver Sands Beach

Silver Sands is situated in the north coast of Jamaica, about a mile north of the small town of Duncans and a 20-minute drive east of the historic town of Falmouth. The area is halfway between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, two of the major tourist centres in Jamaica. Silver Sands offers an escape from the hubbub of the tourist centres, but is also close enough to many tourist attractions. Silver Sands is a gated community, with a white sandy beach at its focal point. The luxurious private villas and cottages around Silver Sands were built to conform to the individual tastes and specifications of their owners, who come from all across the globe. Most villas and cottages are for rent. The properties have private gardens and majority has swimming pools or plunge pools. Each house has easy easily access to the beach via footpaths that cut across the residential blocks. Silver Sands has a sheltered bay for swimming and a long bay for beach combing and windsurfing. Beach activity during the day is monitored by a life guard. There is also a children’s play area featuring seesaws, swings and climbing frames. The west beach with onshore reef is separated from the swimming beach with a gazebo built on the end of the jetty. This gazebo, where many wedding vows have taken place, is also a romantic place to see the sunrise/sunset and full moon. The south end portion of Silver Sands offers a park with a gazebo that looks out to the sea and surrounding countryside. The sea has onshore and offshore coral reefs for snorkeling enthusiasts to explore. Wind conditions are ideal for windsurfing and boat sailing. Beachgoers who prefer more leisurely activities will find Silver Sands’ fine sandy beach suitable for strolling, power walking and jogging.
