Greece - Porto Katsiki Beach

Porto Katsiki, with its clear waters and remarkable sunset, is one of Greece’s most beautiful beaches. In fact, many beach critics and avid tourists in Europe have judged Porto Katsiki as the most outstanding in the country. The beach is located in a very remote place along Lefkada Island’s southwestern coast approximately nine kilometers from the town of Athani and 40 km from the capital of the island. This gives the tourist destination a poor access in which many people must have a long walk in order to reach the place. However, at present, the beach has started building main roads leading to Porto Katsiki. Taxi boats are also a very popular means of entrance to the beach through the towns of Nidri and Vassiliki. Tourists going to the place can also access Porto Katsiki through its 347 steep steps. The beach is bounded by another notable coast – the Egremeni resort.

One of Porto Katsiki beach’s main features is its clear blue-green waters coupled with its smooth white sand. In addition, its sea floor has a combination of sand and small pebbles. The place is perfect at any time of the day. However, the best time to enjoy the seashore is before noon wherein the beach can be shaded by its rugged cliff. Nevertheless, some sightseers take pleasure in the afternoon with Porto Katsiki’s large waves and sunset. Aside from cliffs, the coastline is also enclosed by hills.
