Do it for the vine. Do it for the vine. Remember when a popular vine video circulated for a catchy tune called “Boss A** B****”? The video probably landed you on the Youtube page of the actual full song and you were stuck singing in the back of your head the intensely ratchet lyrics. Did you know that the creators of the catchy after-school freestyle joint were three high school girls by the names of Kandii, K Duceyyy and Alizé, whose group is “P.T.A.F.” (Pretty and Taking All Fades)? Well now you do…
About 17 months later after releasing their video, rapper Nicki Minaj took the beat and the hook of the song and made it a hit for herself. Nicki used the song recently to announce that she was “in album mode” and released “Boss A** B****” along with the announcement. This garnered a lot of attention for the 31-year old YMCMB princess but according to 17 year old Kandii, Duceyyy and Alize, the pop-rapper gave them little props for the song (only once shouting them out instagram).
Luckily, thanks to Devon “DeVoe” Reed, cousin of K. Duceyyy, the girls registered their song with BMI. And thanks to Nicki’s remix, P.T.A.F. gained the attention of A&R for Capitol Music Group, Eesean “E” Bolden, scoring the young trio and now high school graduates a major single deal with the record company. Smart move! By the way, below is Nicki Minaj’s version of Boss A** B**** and P.T.A.F’s original released track of the song.
