Jennifer Lopez Admits to Feeling Insecure About Singing: “I’m Not Good At This…”

If you’ve ever wondered whether or not Jennifer Lopez knew that she wasn’t the best singer around, fret not any longer. Not only did the former Fly Girl know it, it used to make her insecure.

Speaking with Cosmopolitan, the multi-faceted entertainer explained, ”It was after I had kids to be honest… The biggest insecurity I had was my singing. Even though I had sold 70 million records, there was this feeling like, I’m not good at this.”

What she calls insecurity, I call self-awareness. After all, two of her biggest hits — “I’m Real” and the remix to “Ain’t It Funny” — are basically Ashanti demos that J.Lo sings over.

Same goes for much of the material on my favorite J.Lo album, ‘This Is Me…Then.. Shout out to you, Natasha Ramos, for putting in work.

Now, despite Jennifer feeling a little weary over her waif thin vocals, she added that her ex-husband encouraged her to be confident in the singing talent she had.

She continued: ”And while I was married to Marc, he helped me get over it. He kept telling me, ‘You’re the only one holding yourself back from reaching your full potential as a singer. You have to let go.’ I was always so insecure and just kind of going along. Then I grew, little by little, and realized, wait a minute, this is not a fluke. I’m not a mistake – I work my ass off. And I know what I’m doing.”

Uh, well that’s a nice way of flipping it.

You know what? Jennifer, you sure do work your ass off and deserve your success. You still can’t really sing all that great, though, but oh well.

You dance better than many acts half your age and you continue to make hits. Pro Tools or not, that’s all that matters for a pop act.

RAPPER’S DELIGHT: Big Sean Dishes On Rapping About His Ex Ashley & What Naya Rivera Thinks + Foxy Brown BREAKS DOWN in TEARS Over The Haters

 photo epis3_zps91918cfd.jpg

Rapper Big Sean opened up about writing the Hall of Fame track "Ashley" about his high school sweetheart and how his new chick, Naya Rivera feels about it.  Watch the interview inside and find out why Foxy Brown broke down in tears inside….

Rapper Big Sean just hosted a release party for his forthcoming Hall of Fame disc (August 27th) recently and had his gorgeous girlfriend Naya Rivera on his arm.  On the new disc, Big Sean included a song called "Ashley" featuring Miguel, which is named for his childhood sweetheart Ashley (whom he broke up with prior to (and likely for) Naya).

While you might think it’s weird to included a song about your ex-girlfriend, Big Sean doesn’t see it that way.  During an interview with 106 KMEL, he explained that Ashley is a wonderful woman who was there for him in many ways.  He said he wrote the song BEFORE he met Naya and thought that Ashley deserve her own song. Although he hasn’t spoke to her in a long time, he says they are cool.

When asked how Naya felt about it, he said that Naya is ALSO an artist and she understands that you will always be inspired by people from your past.

SIDEBAR:  In Naya’s new song "Sorry" featuring Big Sean, she sings to all the ex-girlfriends of her current boyfirend about not being sorry about being with him. At one point, she namechecks an ex-named Ahsley.  When asked about it, Big Sean says it shouldn’t be taken so literally.  If you say so…

Get More: Foxy Brown, RapFix Live, Full Episodes

Foxy Brown appeared on RapFix Live alongside Big Daddy Kane when she broke down about rumors and gossip affecting her personal life.  Through tears, she said,

"I have tears in my eyes right now because what I’ve been through, you guys don’t understand. The fact that somebody can just lie and it becomes a trending topic, where everybody is talking about it, and you have to constantly come out of the booth and stop what I’m doing to defend a lie."

In the clip, she received some words of wisdom from Big Daddy Kane on going forward.  She added, "You know me I’m far from weak, I’m as strong as they get. I have the heart of a soldier, but after a while it becomes let her live. Let her live."

On a positive note, it sounds like Foxy is working on a new album.  In between the tears, she said she had to come out of the "booth" to deal with these rumors.  Alrighty then….

MAGAZINE FAB: Queen Latifah COVERS “THR”, READIES Her Daytime Debut, AVOIDS Questions About Sexuality, “That’s Mine. For Me.”

 photo latifah.jpg

Academy Award nominee Queen Latifah covers the latest issue of "THR".  Inside, the mag highlights her upcoming daytime talk show, looks at how her family helped mold her career and why she continues to avoid questions about her personal life.  See highlights inside…..

 photo 03_QueenLatifa0585_final.jpg

On September 16, media mogul Queen Latifah will make a heralded return to the daytime television market with The Queen Latifah Show.  Folks who tune into the Sony Pictures Television show will see Queen Latifah tap cover a mixture of celebrity interviews and human interest pieces….and she’ll even sing!  But what you shouldn’t expect any revelations about her personal life.

Holly Jacobs, executive vp syndication and reality programming at Sony Pictures Television said,

"It’s her choice what she chooses to talk about….It doesn’t feel relevant to me because we’re just making a big, entertaining show and celebrating all of life. There’s a difference between talking about one’s personal life and one’s point of view and perception of the world and how they see it. And I respect that people need to put boundaries to whatever they want to talk about."

But that doesn’t mean the show will steer away from controversial topics.  The Queen Latifah Show has already been sold to 94 percent of the country and its’ host does not plan to miss out on polarizing issues.

When asked about the George Zimmerman verdict, Queen told THR, "I like that that trial brings up race and people’s fears. But I don’t necessarily need to sensationalize it. I would like to find a more interesting way to talk about it without trivializing it."

Elsewhere in the article, Queen talks about the death of her beloved brother, keeping her personal life "personal" and how she feels about the growing number of Black talk show hosts.  Here are the highlights:

On the death of her brother:

"I know what it is to really lose someone, and the devastation that it causes and the confusion and the helplessness and the desperation and utter grief. There’s nothing closer to me than my brother. That was my foundation. Mommy, Daddy, my brother, from the moment I was born, they were in my life. But I also know some of the little things that can trigger your emotions. You may smell something that reminds you of that person, and it will just flood all of these emotions through you. And it just comes back and you don’t even expect it. Sometimes it’s not only the big knock-you-over-the-head things, it’s the subtle things."

On how she learned to control her destiny:

"Poverty will do that. When you want something that you can’t afford, you do what you have to do. Our goal was to use our creativity to turn it into a business that would change the circumstances of our families. For Shakim and me, once we did it, we realized we were really good at it. We could do this all day. Business is fun. Controlling your own destiny is fun. Creating an idea and turning it into a movie; finding an artist and guiding their career and bringing them to some type of status — there’s joy in that. We didn’t go to college. But we’re smart people. We’re hustlers, we’re definitely going to get it done. But we also know where we came from. Nobody wants to go back there. We love the ‘hood, but nobody wants to go back who makes it out."

On if there are too many Black talk show hosts:

Absolutely not. There’s a reason that Steve Harvey is succeeding. He has a huge fan base. I listen to him on the radio. I watch him on Family Feud. Wendy Williams was a big-time radio host. And that’s an underserved market. You’d need about 10 African-American hosts on TV for it to be saturated, but we’re nowhere near that."

On sexuality: "That’s mine. For me"
“I don’t feel the need to discuss my private life on this show or any other show,” Latifah says. “There’s the part of my life that the public and I share together. And there’s the part that’s mine to keep for myself. And that’s mine. For me.”

On bringing positivity to television:
“I have to be realistic about what I can and can’t do,” Latifah says. “So whatever I do has to really be worth it. I like to master the things I do. Making this show great, that’s my focus right now. I want to bring some positivity to daytime TV.”

Evan Ross has been parading his new boo Ashlee Simpson around for the world to see he’s moved on from his ex.  Check out the twosome boo’d up in NYC for Ashlee’s sister Jessica‘s Fall campaign launch, plus Kelis doing her out in L.A.

Actor Evan Ross and Ashlee Simpson — who was rocking a Jessica Simpson dress — attended the launch of the Jessica Simpson Fall 2013 Campaign hosted by Ashlee at Above Allen in NYC yesterday.

We kinda thought these two were extremely awkward together, but maybe that’s why they might work.

Ashlee, who used to be married to rocker Pete Wentz and they have a baby boy together, also had a romantic lunch date at Gemma before the event. The couple also dined at the east village restaurant and were spotted holding hands and kissing at their table, before hurrying to their car:

Don Lemon RESPONDS To The Backlash About His “Pull Your Pants Up” Controversy + Is “The View” LOOKING To Hire Hoda Kotb?

 photo donlene4321.png

CNN anchor Don Lemon appeared on "The View" today to address controversial comments he made about Black America in the wake of the Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin trial.  Watch his response to those who have an issue inside and find out about ABC possibly pursuing Hoda Kotb for a co-host spot on "The View".

CNN anchor Don Lemon appeared on "The View" this morning to address and defend controversial comments he made on his CNN show.  His "Talking Points" about pulling up you pants, using the "n" word, finishing school and being an involved parent had many people feeling some kind of way.  He also said Bill O’Reilly (who blamed certain rappers and other foolishness for all the problems in the black community) didn’t go far ENOUGH with his critique.  See what he said above….

Prior to his appearance, he also tweeted several statements to defend his talking points.

The streets are talking…..and they’re saying that Barbara Walters and the folks at "The View" want Hoda Kotb to add some "diversity" to their panel, according to the NY Post.  Hoda, who has a news background which could add a good quality back into the show that it’s been lacking since Meredith Viera left, is Egyptian and the panel does have two African American women on it currently with Whoopi Goldberg & Sherri Shepherd.

A media insider explained Hoda’s appeal to Page Six saying,

“Hoda addresses several of their needs. She has news experience, which is something ‘The View’ has not had since Meredith Vieira left. She also adds some diversity to the panel.”

Of course the news prompted a denial from Hoda’s camp, who said,

“Hoda loves her job at ‘Today’ and she’s very happy laughing and scratching with Kathie Lee every day.”

But you know…once the streets start talking….an offer has been made.  We will indeed be here for this if it happens.  Loves some Hoda.
