Willow Smith DONS Vertical Stripes For Jada Pinkett’s “From Slavery To Freedom” Event + Alicia Keys PERFORMS “Tears Always Win” On “American Idol”

 photo cast6.jpg

Jada Pinkett Smith and daughter Willow raised awareness for the anti-slavery movement last night.  Learn more about their cause inside and see Alicia Keys perform on "American Idol."

 photo cast3.jpg

Last night, Jada Pinkett hosted the 15th Annual From Slavery to Freedom Event. The evening honored business leaders, volunteers, donors and students who are invested in social and systemic changes that aim to end modern-day slavery. You’ll recall that Jada has done several PSAs about human trafficking and other forms of modern-day slavery as the issue is close to her heart.

 photo cast1.jpg

Jada’s fashionably eccentric daughter, Willow, supported her at the event, held at the Sofitel Hotel in Los Angeles.  The younger Smith turned heads on the red carpet in a stripped pantsuit with a cropped leather jacket and bowler hat.

 photo cast2.jpg

Jada, who wore a salmon-colored trouser suit, was also supported by singer Nicole Scherzinger, who attended in a sexy white slash-neck midi dress, which she belted at the waist.

After the event, Jada continued her efforts to raise awareness, tweeting her followers, "The #antislavery stats matter b/c they represent real people. We need to share stories that show stats AND dignify survivors. #DSBChat.’"

In other news about Jada, she’s set to produce a romantic drama called Salsa, starring the William Levy, who’s known as "the Cuban Brad Pitt."

And in television performances….

Alicia Keys appeared on "American Idol" last night where she sang "Tears Always Win".  Apparently, the singer was a nervous before she hit the stage to performed the Bruno Mars-penned tune tweeting, “Looking at the audience is giving me butterflyz!!!. Feels like I’m trying out for the show too!!!”  But Ms. Keys had no need to worry, her vocals were amazing and we’re sure she got America’s vote!

Erykah Badu Does HILARIOUS Interview With Kendrick Lamar + Alicia Keys Writes To Judge To Save Lauryn Hill…& Lauryn Says Thanks

 photo kendrickerykah_zps2d0a3d04.jpg

Erykah Badu switched jobs for a day to work for Interview magazine.  And her first subject…is hot rapper Kendrick Lamar.  Check out what she asked him about how he chooses groupies, who he’s scared of having his business out there and more…

In the latest issue of Interview magazine, Erykah Badu plays reporter and interviews "Swimming Pools" rapper Kendrick Lamar about his cereal, his groupies and more.  But our fave answer?  His insightful comment about what he envies about women.  This could be the reason chicks love his music so much.

Here are the highlights from their Interview chit chat:

BADU: How do you choose chicks from backstage?
LAMAR: How do I choose chicks from backstage?
BADU: Yeah, what is the protocol?
LAMAR: I try not to. [laughs] I’m too scared. Anybody who knows me knows that I’m probably the most scared person when it comes to that because I’m so caught up in the act of sex, of something going crazy, going out of my control. I’m too paranoid.
BADU: [laughs] So you just pass?
LAMAR: I’ve got to because I’ve seen a situation where it got totally out of hand, where something seemed so innocent, and now this person has got allegations on them. It spooked me. This was before my career really started, though—before any “Kendrick Lamar.” And that right there? It changed my whole perception about certain things. I’ll always keep that in the back of my head.

BADU: So who is your asshole-checker?
LAMAR: Who is my what?
BADU: Your asshole-checker—the person in your crew or your family who let’s you know if you’re being a asshole.
LAMAR: I have two, actually. [both laugh] But the main one is a friend of mine—a lady friend who has known me since high school. She has always been someone, since day one, who has said something whenever I’m an asshole, or also if I’m doin’ something positive—but more so when I’m out of my element.

BADU: What’s your favorite cereal?
LAMAR: Fruity Pebbles. When people ask for my rider, they think I’m crazy: Fruity Pebbles, baked chicken, bottle of Hennessy, and some Polo socks.

BADU: What do you, as a man, envy about what it means to be a woman?
LAMAR: There’s just a certain knowledge instilled in a woman. There are these things that women have that men just can’t grasp: the understanding of love; the understanding of being; having a certain type of care in your heart and knowing when to be compassionate; knowing how to be a confidante…
BADU: That’s a good perspective. Something I envy that men have is that ability to grow a goatee. I think that’d be really hot on me.

And one of the only normal questions:

ERYKAH BADU: Can you describe how it feels to be in this cyclone of good fortune that you’re experiencing right now? How are you handling all of it?

KENDRICK LAMAR: I always thought money was something just to make me happy. But I’ve learned that I feel better being able to help my folks, ’cause we never had nothing. So just to see them excited about my career is more of a blessing than me actually having it for myself. My folks ain’t graduated from high school or nothing like that, so we always had to struggle in the family—and I come from a big family. But as far as me handling this, it’s a weird feeling because it’s like a blur right now. I think my worst problem is actually living in the moment and understanding everything that’s going on. I feel like I’m in my own bubble. People tell me all the time, "You’re crazy, going there by yourself," because it wouldn’t have soaked in yet that I’m supposed to be quote "Kendrick Lamar"—whoever this guy’s supposed to be. I still feel like me. So it’s really about me trying to adapt—that’s like the toughest thing for me right now. I feel like I’m in my own world.

Meanwhile, some singers are reaching out on Lauryn Hill’s behalf to make please to her judge in her tax evasion case.  And on her Tumblr, Lauryn pointed out both Alicia Keys & Stevie (as well as the name of each fan who reached out) as being two of the celebs going to bat for her:

"I want to extend a sincere thank you to the following people, who wrote letters to the judge on my behalf: Linda Banks, Edison, NJ Davonne Breedlove Binna Choi, Beijing, China Hafiz Farid, East Orange, NJ Miriam Anne Banks Farrakhan, Union, NJ Vincent Gardner, New York, NY Michael Green, Fair Bluff, NC Elitta Harden, Ft Worth, TX Mrs. Valarie Hill, South Orange, NJ Maureen Hogan, Jersey City, NJ Walter Jones, New York, NY Alicia Keys Elena Lau, Toronto, Canada Jerald Miller, New York, NY Tracy Morris, Jacksonville Beach, FL Elise Munoz, France Bunmi Olukoya, Laurel, MD Jimmie Pierre, Trenton, NJ Cherisse Pittman Gabrielle Fulton Ponder, Atlanta, GA Dominique Reese, Oakland, CA Chris Schwartz, Philadelphia, PA Ashley Scott, Brooklyn, NY Derek Singletary, Astoria, NY Dr. Sara Tai, Manchester, UK Suzette Williams, Teaneck, NJ Lisa Willis, Philadelphia, PA Stevie Wonder Jonathan Wunderlich, Cabarete, DR"

Sweet.

And she expressed her gratitude to all her supporters:

"And thank you Jerald Miller, for taking the initiative to put this together. I also want to thank all of my family, friends, business associates, and fans who have called, emailed, sent texts, and posted messages of concern, encouragement, and support. I appreciate the well wishes, and I thank you for your prayers. Also, to anyone who may have written letters that we did not know about, thank you also, all of you. I will have more to say soon, but did not want to further delay expressing my appreciation. Thank you again, MLH"

Keep you rhead up L Boogie!

YBF Celebs Take Over The 2013 MET Ball: Beyonce, Alicia, Solange, Nicki Minaj, Kerry, Tiger & More!

 photo florha21_zps2667e52b.jpg

Another year, another Met Ball.  The biggest fashion red carpet & event of the year is currently underway at MoMA in NYC, and we’ve got the YBF celebs who took over the extremely fashionable red carpet.  Check out the risk takers who pulled off their looks fabulously, and those who tried….

Once again, for the second year in a row, Beyonce Knowles took over VOGUE’s 2013 "PUNK: Chaos To Couture" themed Met Ball tonight rocking an eye catching and sexy look from Givenchy Haute Couture.  After last year’s shutdown in the purple & black feather & sheer number, Bey switched it up with a strapless leather bodice and a printed gold and black skirt with a high slit that exposed matching boots, and came with matching gloves.

 photo PUNKChaosCoutureCostumeInstituteGala1WGy_aerP1hl_zps0e82e978.jpg

 photo florho20_zps8d4c0c7c.jpg

Gotta love it.

And she’s not the only risk taker who won.

 photo ket2_zps7f57f519.jpg

We’re absolutely loving Alicia Keys’, LaLa’s, and Kerry Washington’s looks for the night.

 photo floraj3_zps57e81c63.jpg

Alicia kept her sexy edge in a leather cutout Jason Wu halter dress with a red sequined bottom half and the perfect touch of punk with Robert Lee Morris jewels, a Tonya Hawkes clutch and streak of red hair.

"Scandal" star Kerry Washington has been on a whirlwind NYC promo tour today hitting up several back to back to back talk shows.  And she pulled it together once again tonight in a gorgeous Vera Wang creation.  Vera stepped outside the box of her usual simple colors and flowy looks to go for a structured multmedia dress with a bold metallic print.  And it worked perfectly for Kerry.

 photo ket1_zpsbfc34607.jpg

Kerry and Vera even posed it up with Andre Leon Talley inside looking like a page snatched straight from VOGUE magazine.  Serve.

 photo PUNKChaosCoutureCostumeInstituteGala1dpZl0RxXM3l_zps9307a1f6.jpg

LaLa Anthony looked amazing as she flew solo in this red satin Zac Posen dress as she showed off her new slim & toned bod in a dress that would show every flaw.  But in this look, she’s got none.  Perfect straightened & cut blonde hair as well.

 photo ket3_zpsc802937f.jpg

La had some fun with her girl Chanel Iman who rocked striped Diane von Furstenberg.

 photo wav12_zpsc48126e3.jpg

And let’s discuss Nicole Richie‘s surprising silver foxy look shall we?  We must say, it works for her.  It’s a costume gala after all and she gave just enough "costume" drama.  Chick could play Storm in X-Men.  The fashion diva rocked Dana Rebecca Designs and a Maria Francesca Pepe ring.

 photo PUNKChaosCoutureCostumeInstituteGalaE0nJBqcDo4cl_zps1172c3f5.jpg

 photo PUNKChaosCoutureCostumeInstituteGalar61wn9Mf0DPl_zpsd13c6b2e.jpg

Oh Nicki.  Our darling Nicki.  Not sure if it’s the 80′s hair (yeah, we know the theme is Punk but still) or the dark lipstick with it, but this is doing a bit much.  The dress isn’t doing it for us either.  Maybe it’s because it’s by Tommy Hilfiger and he doesn’t strike us as a red carpet formal gown type of designer.  But, it’s not horrible.

By the way, Tommy gifted her with a Rolex a few hours ago as well that she happily put on Twitter.  Nice!

 photo PUNKChaosCoutureCostumeInstituteGalaOEKgqW3lOHcl_zps18a96b56.jpg

 photo PUNKChaosCoutureCostumeInstituteGala5nxw3CG14Gpl_zps6b325a3a.jpg

Fashion diva Solange Knowles never gets it wrong.  And tonight is no different.  The "Losing You" singer stepped outside the box and rocked a printed blue Kenzo dress for, as she called it, an "Afro Punk" look.  And we’re loving every bit of it.  The hair, that slit, and those gorgeous earrings.  Loves it!

 photo florha24_zpsf9039c5e.jpg

Rocking a white Thakoon look with an exposed midriff slit and a high split in the skirt, Rita Ora got it all the way right witht he hair and makeup as well.  Loving this look for her.

And the athletes also made their way to the hige fashion event:

 photo PUNKChaosCoutureCostumeInstituteGalakqqV_MROreGl_zps6817d413.jpg

NY Giants star Victor Cruz kept it dapper in a teal Lanvin dinner jacket with his tux.

 photo Victor-Cruz-wears-Calvin-Klein-tuxedo-at-MET-Ball-2013_zps0e977ada.jpg

And his fiancee Elaina Watley looked great in this very detailed bodice of a dress with a full black skirt.

 photo PUNKChaosCoutureCostumeInstituteGala-jmku9s3O3rl_zps1c926095.jpg

NY Knicks star Amar’e Soudemire, who plans to come back from injury in Game 3 later this week, attended in a dapper Calvin Kelin suit with a burgundy jacket full of sheen.  Loves it.  And his wife Alexis makes pregnancy look ridiculously fabulous as she rocks a frock full of feathers by Giambattista Valli.  Gorgeous.

The twosome took pics with Taylor Swift and teammate Tyson Chandler‘s wife, Kimberly.

 photo PUNKChaosCoutureCostumeInstituteGala5sa7DkzF615l_zpse6b3a0fe.jpg

And rounding out the athletes, Tiger Woods and his new chick, pro ski racer Lindsay Vonn, made their red carpet debut tonight.  No risks taken here, but the white gown is pretty.

 photo PUNKChaosCoutureCostumeInstituteGalaXgAs5r7mWCEl_zps8b506eae.jpg

Jennifer Lopez got catty in this stunningly glam Michael Kors gown.  Very unexpected look by the all American designer, but the risk paid off because Jenny looks amazing.  As usual, the cheetah style nude and black print dress looks painted on.  And she’s freaking flawless.

 photo florah19_zps8b88ff00.jpg

Oh hey ALT!  Get it with those pink socks!

More pics of the YBFers will be updated here as they come in.  Stay tuned!

"There’s not one thing about Girl on Fire that’s like any of my others. I’m in a totally new state of mind…This album is like saying I am who I am, not who you want me to be."

On the cover, she rocked a wool dress Jean Paul Gaultier dress.  Gorge.

And look who’s making their fashion magazine debut:

 photo ScreenShot2013-04-17at61747PM.png

Paris Jackson shot the cover with an in-depth interview with EVENT Magazine where she talked about dancing with her father MJ, her childhood and reconnecting with her birth mother Debbie Rowe.  The pics show a model in the making. Here are the highlights:

On being raised by the King of Pop:

"I have lots of memories of my father," says Paris, tapping the side of her head. "We were privileged because we had our dad and we had our house that we were living in [Neverland]. We knew he was a singer. I guess I got used to it. It just seemed normal to me at the time.

"He was an incredible father. We all loved him to death. He had that good energy where you just didn’t want to leave. Like, you’re always just comfortable with him."

"He wanted the best for us. He always made sure we were healthy. He made sure we stuck to school. He’d try to educate us as much as he could and was always looking out for us. He was very protective."

On wearing the masks and veils:

"The masks were [my dad's] idea," Paris explains. "He didn’t want anyone [in the media] to see what we looked like. That way we could have what he didn’t, which was a normal childhood."

On dancing with her father:

"My dad taught me how to dance. I would always dance. And yes, he did teach me the moonwalk!"

On reconnecting with her mom and living a normal childhood:

"I want to have a normal high-school experience, [but] it’s hard to hard to have a normal childhood when you have security with you all the time. I’m on a tight leash and I feel if that leash was loosened a little bit I would definitely have a chance at a normal childhood, because I have friends who are completely normal, and hey — they don’t even think of me as MJ’s kid. They think of me as who I am, you know?"

When I’m with my mom, we don’t really have security with us. Which is really nice."

SHOE LOVER: Alicia Keys LAUNCHES The Freestyle Hi Wedge A.Keys Sneaker With Hubby Swizz Beatz

 photo reddalic2.jpg

Alicia Keys brought along her husband, Swizz Beatz, to help her launch the new Freestyle Hi Wedge A.Keys sneaker from Reebok in L.A. Find out more about the launch inside….

 photo reedalic3.jpg

"Girl of Fire" singer Alicia Keys just launched more designs from her new shoe collection with Reebok geared towards girls on the run.  She appeared at Nordstrom at The Grove where she joined Reebok in launching their new collection of Freestyle Hi Wedge A.Keys sneakers.

 photo rebalic1.jpg

 photo reddalic4.jpg

To celebrate the launch, Alicia did a brief Q&A with Maria Menounos where she talked about the process of designing the shoes and her own style inspirations. She said,

“The Freestyle has always been a part of my style—so I’m really excited to give it even more of an edge. I’m feeling deeply inspired this year with the new album, tour, and everything that’s going on in my life. Creativity is limitless in its possibilities and I love that I get to express myself in a whole new artistic way through the design of these collections.”

 photo photo85.jpg

For the design, Alicia took her favorite Classic silhouette to new heights by re-introducing the iconic Freestyle silhouette. She stayed true to the DNA of the Freestyle product, with characteristic double straps, 3 iconic collar puffs and Freestyle heel counters and anon-trend twist.  And this is Alicia’s second time teaming up with Reebok. The first Reebok Classic X Alicia Keys collection was released in September 2011.

 photo AliciaKeysAliciaKeysLeavingGroveAfter9LIoUbXm-Lhl.jpg

The Reebok Classic X Alicia Keys Spring/Summer 2013 collection will be introduced on April 1st with the Chi Street Pack.  It features bright, sporty color blocking, candy pop color explosions of neon pink and bright yellow with a real sport luxe feel (shown above on Alicia).

She’s also dropping the Classic Iridescent Pack which draws inspiration from Alicia’s stage life and features a bold all over red Freestyle Hi Wedge, paying homage to one of the most sought after original Freestyles (shown above on Swizz).  Additional styles feature tonal gloss python prints, neon color pops and iridescent accents.

The Reebok Classic X Alicia Keys Spring/Summer 2013 collection will be available at Nordstrom and Reebok.com for $ 90.

The Reebok family now has a long history of dealing with Swizz and Alicia as Mr. Beatz has been the focus of several high-profile collaborations with folks like Rick Ross, Shaq & Tyga.

We guess the only thing that’s left for this family to launch is a shoe and clothing line for their youngest son Egypt!

Alicia Keys Talks Married Life With Swizz & Baby Egypt Kissing Blue Ivy On “The Wendy Show”

 photo 2c388320786911e2b48222000a9f1915_7_zps85f76010.jpg

The curvy Mrs. Keys-Beatz made her way to "The Wendy Show" and her interview and TV performance aired today.  Check out Alicia dishing on her marriage to Swizz Beatz and the life of her baby boy Egypt inside….

Alicia Keys did a pre-taped appearance on "The Wendy Show" this morning.  And it’s too bad because we would have loved to hear a question about that All-Star halftime show from last night.

But Alicia and Wendy chopped it up about marriage, the ways Alicia is a real mom like everyone else, and and Egypt’s love for the piano.

Alicia says she’s pretty sure she wants more children at some point, and her favorite gift that she’s received from her husband, Swizz Beatz, is the tattoo he got of her face on his arm. Ouch!

 photo 0030a9c2789311e282e022000a1fbc68_7_zps199fa167.jpg

When Wendy asked her–sneakily we may add–exactly how she and Swizz got together and how long they dated before marriage, Alicia avoided the question by talking about why she fell in love with her husband.  But she did reveal they first met way back when they were 16 and 17-years old.

As for baby Egypt, he’s walking everywhere now and loves to play the piano with mommy.  Alicia revealed she indeed puts him in a car seat–with her driving the car–sometimes.  And yes, they make everyday stops like Home Depot and she brings her son to the studio all the time. And she even dished on how she, Swizzy and Egypt go over to The Carters’ house in Tribeca for some QT. And Egypt got in trouble for giving baby Blue Ivy a kiss.   Sweet!

Check out the interview below:

And her "Brand New Me" performance:
