INSIDE DISH: Stylist Lysa Cooper GETS CANDID On Working With Rihanna, Beyonce And Others + Kanye West’s “Black Skinhead” VIDEO

 photo stylistsffe.png

In the latest issue of Italian VOGUE, stylist Lysa Cooper provided an insider’s perspective on working with some of the industry’s biggest stars like Rihanna and Beyonce.  Get behind-the-scenes dish on what was really behind Rih’s hairstyles and Bey’s GQ cover inside and watch Kanye’s unofficial video for "Black Skinhead"….

 photo lysacoper3-96674_0x440.jpg

Lysa Cooper, a woman who’s been at the forefront of celebrity styling for the past decade, sat down with Italian VOGUE to talk about working with some of the movie iconic artists in music, fashion and film.  In her raw and candid interview with writer Robyn Price, Lysa talks about how the industry has changed, how she’s managed it, and some very candid moments with clients such as Rihanna, Beyonce. Basically, Lysa is that YBF chick who has zero f**ks to give…and is still damn good at her job.

Here are the highlights:

You were one of the masterminds behind Rihanna’s image transformation (along with Ursula Stephen and others on the team) that helped propel her into superstardom. What was it like working with Rihanna on the cusp of her transformation?

I worked with her without knowing who she was. She was just some cute girl, and Ellen von Unwerth and I were shooting her. The one good thing she had was Ursula Stephen, who I knew. And so when I walked in, to tell you the truth, the only person out of her crew that I knew was Ursula. And I thought, Ursula is here, so at least I know the level I’m on. Then she wasn’t working yet, with Mylah Morales doing her makeup. Mylah is one of the best in the business. Her hair was to here (shoulder length), and we cut her shit up to here (above her shoulders).

She had a lot of hair back then. And now, there is a lot of hair again. We’ll get into that later. Everybody needs to stop with the hair, including Beyoncé.

So that was how I kind of connected with her. It was on a job with Ellen. They’re all looking at me like “you don’t even know who you’re working with?” And I was like “no, I don’t really care.” She’s cute. She’s nice. She’s an island girl. I had a good time. We did some really sexy pictures. I kept it moving. I’m not a big practitioner of staying too long. Her and Shakira were probably the two girls that I worked with for a long period of time. I’m more of a hit and run kind of a person. I like to hit it and run.

Why is that?

I don’t know. That way you’re not bored. That way you don’t become somebody’s slave. That way there are boundaries. And those boundaries got blurred with Rihanna. And with her previous management, we had some major falling out. Also, I’m a lot older than her. I don’t entourage it up. I don’t like to hang out like that. And when I do hang out, I hang out hard and I think that can be very intimidating to people who aren’t use to the old way of partying.

What’s the old way of partying?

Go out dancing all night long. You’re not Instagraming every fucking moment. You’re not smoking wack-ass weed with some bad blunts. Sorry. I smoke weed, but I smoke good weed. I feel like everybody is a little lost in the sauce right now.

But we’re dealing with the number one artist, so that makes certain things more difficult and complicated. She is the number one artist, right? Is she ahead of Beyoncé? I can’t really tell.

What was it like working with her (Beyonce) on the GQ Super Bowl-inspired cover?

Hilarious. So funny. Magazines now are so nervous. Everyone is afraid to lose their job. They’ve already planned every shot. Nothing is very organic anymore. They had an idea of what they wanted to do. And then Beyoncé told me that she didn’t want to do any of that; so we didn’t. And, what I loved, is that Beyoncé knows what she’s going to do, and what she’s not going to do. And what’s she’s comfortable with and what she’s not. And I thought that was a very racy shoot for her. And I kept teasing her and saying that this is going to become the cover. It was amazing. And of course that’s not what they wanted. They wanted some white t-shirt GQ bullshit. And I kept saying to her “Watch, this is the cover.” And it was. And it was so cute. Little vintage shirt. And you know, they wanted to put their designers on it. And really at the end of the day, I think a lot of the way things are run now is about selling shit and they forget that they’re dealing with personalities. She looked great.

Read the full interview here.  Lysa also served as one of the judges on Rihanna’s "Styled To Rock" show in the UK.

And in new music videos…..

One of the celebs who also appearedo n "Style To Rock" with Lysa is Kanye West.

A CGI-version of Kanye’s track "Black Skinhead" has been released to the web.  Though the clip is the first visual from Yeezus, it’s interesting to note Kanye has tweeted, "The BLKKK SKKKN HD video that leaked yesterday was not the official version."

The *unofficial* clip features a slightly hulk-like animated version of Kanye wearing a gold and bouncing around in what appears to be a boxing ring.  And his package gets a little air time as well.  Check out the clip above….

RED CARPET EXCLUSIVE: Kevin Hart ON “Let Me Explain” And APPRECIATING His FANS At The 17th Annual American Black Film Festival

 photo 4e1440bcdb9a11e283e322000aa8200d_7-1.jpg

TheYBF.com spoke with funnyman Kevin Hart at the ABFF red carpet premiere of his film Let Me Explain where he revealed to us why he documented his comedic tour and how much he loves his fans.  See what he had to say inside and see Irv Gotti, Dwyane Wade, Omari Hardwick and Bevy Smith on the red carpet.

Over the weekend, Kevin Hart headed down to Miami for the red carpet premiere of Let Me Explain during the 17th Annual American Black Film Festival (which was sponsored by Cadillac).  Held at The Gusman Theatre, the film was produced by Kevin Hart and CodeBlack Films.  During his chat with TheYBF.com, the funnyman explained the origin of the film and why he decided to document his latest tour around the world. He told us,

"This is capturing a world tour aspect. These shows were huge…we we’re doing arenas. But with everything that happened, I couldn’t show my fans…because they weren’t there.  I think what makes "Let Me Explain" so amazing is that I take my fans on the journey I took this past year.

And as crazy and amazing as it was, I appreciate it more because I appreciate the ones who were there for me. And that’s what it’s about. It’s like a fan appreciation. I think I’ve shown growth…"

During the film, fans gets to see Kevin take "Let Me Explain" around the country and overseas.  He also shows clips from his sold out show at Madison Square Garden and touches on sensitive subjects like his divorce and if he dates brown girls or not.

Kevin also did a Q&A with CodeBlack Entertainment founder Jeff Clanagan where they spoke about partnering up to produce the film. He explained that he and Jeff financed the film themselves, and only accepted 4 million dollars from the studio to help distribute the movie.

Throughout the session, Kevin really stressed the importance of business and owning his own stuff. He also touted the power of social media and the downside of bootlegging.

He added that he hopes to do 5 seasons for "RHOH" and BET is exploring the option of taking the show overseas.

Also on the red carpet…

Dwyane Wade, who helped the Miami Heat to victory during the 2013 NBA finals, told us "I came to support a very funny and talented man." Following the premiere, Dwyane and Kevin linked up to host a party at DREAM with Baggage Claim star Terrence J.

And "Fashion Queens" star Bevy Smith talk to us about annoying fashion trends and said she’s really over women wearing Christian Louboutins and thinking that "makes" their outfit.  "You have on like a horrible cheap dress but if you have on a Louboutin you think you’re doing the damn thing.  You’re not."

Other spotted on the red carpet were LeBron James, Salli Richardson Whitfield and her husband Dondre Whitfield, Terrence J, Mike Kyser, Spike Lee and Robert Townsend.

INSIDE DISH: “Baggage Claim” CAST Boris Kodjoe, Terrence J & Derek Luke ON “Black Being In Again” At 17th Annual American Black Film Festival

 photo JawnMurrayTerrenceJDavidETalbertBorisKodjoeDerekLuke.jpg

Actors Boris Kodjoe, Terrence J, and Derek Luke checked their luggage at a "Baggage Claim" panel discussion during the ABFF where they dished on the resurgence of Black-led films and features.  Get in on the discussion inside….

 photo TerrenceJDavidETalbertBorisKodjoeDerekLuke.jpg

TheYBF.com was on the scene in Miami, FL for the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) where director David E. Talbert joined the cast of his upcoming feature film Baggage Claim in the Cadillac Lounge of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.  As the ABFF celebrated their 10th year in Miami, the Baggage Claim cast talked with journalist Jawn Murray about the progress African Americans have made in films over the past decade.

While touting the new feature, Boris Kodjoe cautioned movie-goers about simply labeling Baggage Claim as a Black film or putting it in a box. When asked about what might explain the recent increase in Black-led films, Boris said:

"It’s not about ‘Black being in again’, it is about supply and demand and how basically Black people have a lot of buying power."

And now, Boris explained, the movie industry is willing to feed the market with films that feature Black casts.

Derek Luke was asked about working on the film, which also stars Paula Patton, Taye Diggs and La La Anthony, so he joked that he’d give an industry answer……it was "Amazing"!  Wonder what REALL Y went down….

 photo TerrenceJKissingAFanattheBaggageClaimPanelatABFF.jpg

At one point during the panel, Terrence J leapt into the audience and planted a big kiss right on the lips of one of his fans!  The "E! News" host also reminded the packed room of admirers that his book, The Wealth of My Mother’s Wisdom, will be hitting stores this fall.

In case you missed it……

Baggage Claim will hit theaters on September 27, 2013.

THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO CELEBRATE JUNETEENTH: Paula Deen ADMITS To USING “N” Word, Accused Of Making BLACK Workers Use SEPARATE Entrances & Restrooms

 photo PaulaDeenPaulaDeenAmaStoudemireVisitOw4hy5Oail3x.jpg

America’s butter-loving southern queen Paula Deen (shown above with Amar’e Stoudemire) is embroiled in a little bit of controversy over her use of the "N"  word.  Get the deets on some of the off-color behavior that Chef Paula and her sons are accused of behind the scenes inside…

Charges of racism are being flung at Southern-chef Paula Deen after The National Enquirer published passages from a video of a deposition where Paula admitted to using the N-word and making racist and anti-Semitic jokes.

According to the Huffington Post, the deposition was held on May 17 as part of a court case brought forth by former Paula Deen Enterprises employee Lisa Jackson against Deen and her brother, Earl “Bubba” Hiers. In the suit, Lisa claimed there were several instances of sexual and racial workplace discrimination.

In one particularly salacious story from the deposition, Lisa was asked to plan a wedding for Paula’s son Bubba.  Lisa claims Paula said she wanted to do a slave-style wedding.  No, really….she did.  Paula’s words:

"I want a true Southern -plantation style wedding.  Well what I would really like is a bunch of little niggers to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties, you know in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around.  Now that would be a true Southern wedding wouldn’t it?"

The deposition goes on to claim that Black workers at "Uncle Bubba’s Restaurant" were required to use the BACK entrance to pick up their checks, and were all required to use the same bathroom at the BACK of the restaurant (while white employees could use the customer’s restrooms).  Also, Blacks employees who worked in the back of the restaurant were not allow to go to the front of the restaurant.

Elsewhere in the deposition, Lisa goes on the quote Bubba saying things like, "I wish I could put all those niggers (in the kitchen) on a boat back to Africa)."  And, he allegedly said, "They should send President Obama to the oil spill in the Gulf Of Mexico so he could nigger-rig it."

When asked by lawyers about Lisa’s claims, here are direct passages from the interview.

On using the N-word:

Lawyer: Have you ever used the N-word yourself?
Deen: Yes, of course.
Lawyer: Okay. In what context?
Deen: Well, it was probably when a black man burst into the bank that I was working at and put a gun to my head.

Lawyer: Okay. And what did you say?
Deen: Well, I don’t remember, but the gun was dancing all around my temple … I didn’t — I didn’t feel real favorable towards him.

Lawyer: Okay. Well, did you use the N-word to him as he pointed a gun in your head at your face?
Deen: Absolutely not.

Lawyer: Well, then, when did you use it?
Deen: Probably in telling my husband.

And on her brother’s behavior:

Lawyer: Are you aware of Mr. Hiers admitting that he engaged in racially and sexually inappropriate behavior in the workplace?

Deen: I guess

Lawyer: Okay. Well, have you done anything about what you heard him admit to doing?
Deen: My brother and I have had conversations. My brother is not a bad person. Do humans behave inappropriately? At times, yes. I don’t know one person that has not. My brother is a good man. Have we told jokes? Have we said things that we should not have said, that — yes, we all have. We all have done that, every one of us.

For her part, Paula Deen’s lawyer defended her in a carfefully worded statement that did not deny what was revealed in the deposition.

"Contrary to media reports, Ms. Deen does not condone or find the use of racial epithets acceptable. She is looking forward to her day in court."

Sometimes we wish we didn’t know the things we know about celebs.  Especially idiotic statements like this.  And no, we’re not giving her points for being "truthful."  She and her brothers seem to "miss" the days of the ole South.  And we’re going to have to MISS her mac & cheese recipes that were damn good. Too bad so sad….

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Kanye Rocks “SNL” With “Black Skinhead” & “New Slaves” (Plus Kanye’s New YEEZUS Album Artwork)

 photo ScreenShot2013-05-19at15532AM_zpscaa3ce5d.png

Mr. West had a lot to scream off his chest Saturday night on ‘SNL". As the musical guest for the fifth time, Kanye debuted a brand new track called "Black Skinhead" and his other new track "New Slaves."

Check out both of Kanye’s rock-style performances where he’s bringing his social consciousness to the world, plus his new album artwork for Yeezus….

‘Ye debuted an interesting track called "Black Skinhead" on "SNL".  And through all of the screaming and slight auto-tune, we could tell he was saying some powerful ish.  While images of fire, political slogans, advertisements and more played in the background (one said "Not For Sale"), Kanye was on 100 living the crowd a rock-style performance.

And if you’re thinking that all dude needed was black nails and lipstick and we could have mistaken him for Marilyn Manson for that performance, you’re not too far off.  The music reportedly sampled a Marilyn Manson song.  Check out his performance of "Black Skinhead" above.

By the way, Virgil (Kanye’s right hand) posted the lyrics to the track saying Kanye literally wrote "Black Skinhead" minutes before his performance. Luckily the network let him perform that piece on live TV (y’all know they like to know what they’re getting before something airs live).

And here’s his other performance from the night, "New Slaves." This performance comes one day after Kanye showed the visuals for the track guerrilla style in 66 cities around the world….projected against buildings.

Your thoughts? Scary genius…or just scary?

According to his girlfriend Kim Kardashian’s latest Instagram pic, the Chi-Town native’s upcoming album is called Yeezus (of course) and will be released June 18th.  Kim posted the album artwork below saying, "#Yeezus #RedYeezy’s #SNL #Tonight #NewSlaves #YeezySeason #Donda #June18"
